When you decide to exercise outdoors in the summer there are several important things you need to consider before you start. Here are the top 5 things you should be doing every time you exercise outdoors.
- Make sure you are drinking water before, during and after you exercise. This will help prevent cramping and over heating on a hot day. If you are exercising for a period of longer than an hour, then you can drink something that has electrolytes added to it. This will replenish your energy stores that you have depleted during your workout.
- Find a shaded area preferably, to exercise. This will help prevent sunburn and overheating.
- If you can’t find shade then wear a hat to block some of the UV rays from the sun and reduce your chance for sunburn.
- Make sure you apply high SPF sunscreen on exposed skin. This will help prevent sunburn and more severe health problems later on down the road.
- Stretch at the end of your workout to help prevent tightness and soreness in your muscles. Hold the stretch for 30 seconds or more and exhale as you lean into the stretch.
